The important characters in this book are namely the narrator, Herr Resch, Herr Schneider and of course, Friedrich.

Friedrich is most important in this story as although written in the author's point of view, it was based on the happenings of Friedrich before and during the Holocaust, mostly about the events which happened to Friedrich. Every event that happened was written in detailed and he was also one of the most mentioned character apart from the author. Therefore, Friedrich is the focus and the main character of the story. So, without Friedrich, there would be no story.
